Elena Sanchez' Life is ruled by two things: her precocious, squid-obsessed daughter and her family's candy shop.  She hasn't had time for romance since her husband passed away when little Gabby was a baby, and Elena's fine with keeping It that way. Then she learns that her neighborhood's Iconic movie theatre Is about to be torn down In favor of building an upscale bank. Tired of the gentrification looming over her neighborhood, Elena rallies her neighbors to fight back - even If that means butting heads with the handsome PR exec burdened with the task of convincing the good people of Pascoag the bank's a good Idea.

Mark Hunt earns the nickname "Ironed jeans" from Eleana when they bump Into each other at the local aquarium, and he lives up to It handily. The buttoned-down New Yorker has no plans to get wrapped up In local politics or the local color.  But then he finds himself getting closer to Elena - and adoring Gabby.

As Mark and Elena grow closer and they begin to fall In love, Elena worries that she might have to compromise her values. But the firework-speckled summer has plans for both of them which may lead to love, fulfillment, and a new start after all.
