Current Openings

(as of December 2023)

CBG is currently looking for editors to join our talented editorial team. Please see below for open positions and make sure you review the payment schedule before applying.

We have positions open in our editorial department.

Content/Developmental Editor: Editor will work with the Author represented by Publisher to:

  • Provide a content/developmental edit. This includes logic and plot, characterization, and structure.
  • Assist with grammar, POV issues, syntax, accuracy of terminology, setting for the particular time period and genre, pacing, tension, and focus on showing not telling.
  • Work via electronic mail, but may also include instant messaging, Skype, chats, or other electronic means.
  • Read/review suggested changes to the manuscript by the copy editor before sending it to Author then to ensure Author makes appropriate revisions.
  • Work with the Author in finalizing book’s blurb (also known as Back Cover Copy).
  • Provide a monthly report to Publisher regarding status of assigned manuscripts or submissions under review.

Copy/Proofread Editor: Editor will proofread assigned manuscripts to look for errors, including but not limited to: missing words, homonyms, missing or incorrect punctuation, etc. The Editor will also be expected to note glaring plot holes and other story issues and indicate for Editor and Author via the Publisher.

Requirements

  • Experience highly desirable particularly for the Content/Development Editor but not essential—will continue to train the right candidate(s).
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Work independently, as well as part of a global team.
  • Assume responsibility for completing projects in a timely fashion.
  • The proven ability to provide constructive criticism.

Other requirements:

  • Recent version of Microsoft Word (within 2 updates), and you have to know how to use Track Changes and other basic editing functions.
  • Attention to detail and a sharp eye to find errors is necessary.
  • Contract and telecommuting position.

Test

While many of the requirements are the same for both positions, applicants will be given an editing test to determine the level of the applicant's editing skills. There are no interviews - just the editing test, as editing is the main skill editors use for this job. A decision to hire and offer one position or the other will be based on either the applicant’s request or from the results of the editing test.

Payment:

For Content/Development Editors, payment arrangements are based on skillset of applicant. At this time, CBG offers two types of payment arrangements:

  • A royalty only arrangement. Royalties are paid out of Publisher’s portion of book sales at 20%/10% (digital/print) per book sold Editor edits until a total of $350 is reached.

For Copy/Proofreading Editors, payments are as follows:

  • At 64,999 or under: Flat rate of $40.00
  • At 65,000 to 99,999: Flat rate of $60.00
  • At 100,000 and over: Flat rate of $80.00.
