    EXCERPT

Aw shit!” Taut erupted, knowing he had been about to rig an ambush but realizing it already failed. “Get in the car. Go!”

The terrorists jumped from the van, running toward Taut and Letti.

    “I’m not leaving you.”

He looked at her as if insanity had a name and it was Letti. “I said, go! Get help.” His coercion was more forceful insisting her compliance.

Letti ignored him and searched about for a weapon but she soon realized Taut was a weapon all in and of himself. Although she couldn’t know that Taut’s gun was in the trunk of the car since he never wore it around her, he had been well-trained in self-defense. He didn’t wait for the attackers to reach them; he rushed toward them. A spin kick caught one man in the gut. The other received a punch to the side of his unshaven jaw. The angry-looking man barely flinched. He might not have been big, but he looked strong, agile and took a fighter’s stance. The other man was already on his feet. Letti panicked and picked up a rock the size of her palm. She used to play softball in high school. She threw a perfect liner that would have hit its mark if he hadn’t seen it coming. Instead he ducked and it hit the handle of the van’s back door that popped open.

“I thought I told you to get out of here!” Taut screamed as he spun, kicked and plummeted any inch of flesh or bone within range.

“They have my dolls!” Letti’s voice held utter indignation as she noticed her signature packages in the back of the van. “What are they doing with my dolls?”
