Delaney Martin has high expectations for her life after returning to her hometown after college. Hoping to reconnect with old friends, she creates a profile on her high school's alumni website. She meets up with Adam Norwood, a boy she remembers as a computer geek, and is pleased to find that he's no longer a nerd, but a hunk. Not to mention kind, generous, and brimming with a terrific sense of humor. Despite her past unease in social situations, Delaney finds herself falling for him.
However, not everyone remembers Delaney as the quiet, misunderstood girl who walked to class with her eyes focused on the ground. One man remembers having his heart broken by her cold snubs and persistent refusals. He sees his opportunity for revenge and begins to make elaborate preparations to make her life a living hell... before he kills her.
Excerpt:
He typed in the web address for Beachfront High’s alumni site and browsed through the list of names. One stood out. Scowling, he clicked on Delaney Martin’s name, and her profile filled the screen, along with an appetizing picture of her in a yellow halter-top and white shorts. She had smiled for the camera with a lopsided grin. He stared at the picture, drinking in her long, tan legs, her toned arms, and slim waist. It was just like the arrogant bitch to upload such a tantalizing picture. Most of the profiles contained head and shoulder shots. Once again, she had to prove she was better than everyone else.
He thought back to high school, and all the times she’d blatantly ignored him, and the date she’d turned down. He remembered the scathing insults his Army Colonel father had hurled at him for not showing interest in girls. He did have interest in a girl. Just one. Delaney Martin.
Though six years had passed since graduation, the wounds still festered. Just the sight of her picture made his palms sweat and his heart thump. Even worse, as he stared at the hateful picture on the screen, his body responded in aching, traitorous hardness.
He read her details for the fiftieth time since she’d posted the profile a week ago. Back in town. Working at a veterinary hospital. Looking to reunite with old girlfriends.
This will be interesting. I’ll make her life a living hell, just like she made mine. I’ll give her a reunion she’ll never forget.
